I flew more than 165 missions over the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos as a night Forward Air Controller (FAC) during the Vietnam War. Every night, I faced the real possibility of being shot down into a dark country, a free-fire zone designated by the US military, populated by soldiers of North Vietnam and Lao Communists. After a year of that, I returned home feeling like a dead man. My marriage at that time ended in a very difficult divorce, which included my two children, leaving me a mess. I attempted to drown my confusion in alcohol and a second marriage, both of which resulted in another divorce and continued turmoil. Thankfully, mental health counseling provided me with the support I needed. Because of that experience, I became passionate about helping others through trauma recovery and offering veteran support to those who have endured similar life-changing events.
